Happy Birthday

Last night my cousin Whitney celebrated her 29th birthday along with some family and friends. We drove to Muscle Shoals and had a night of fun at Lucy's Artsy Place. You can find her page on Facebook. The concept was similar to Sips N Strokes, but no alcohol and no instructor. Basically, we got to pick out what we wanted to create and we let loose!

I wanted to do something a little different than your typical canvas. So I picked out a cutout in the shape of a cupcake. My idea was to create a "Happy Birthday" sign to hang on out front door whenever someone in our family is celebrating a birthday or whenever we have someone's birthday party at our place.

I pulled up my Pinterest app on my phone and searched "cupcake door hanger" for ideas. Along with some of the ideas I found there, I thought about those cute "Happy Everything" platters that are in many of the little gift shops and boutiques. Have you seen them? They are very cute and the idea is that you can replace the top portion with what ever you are celebrating.

Not exactly what I wanted to create but I like the font and the polka dots.

Well enough about that- here is my creation!

I'm pretty excited about how it turned out...

Treasure Hunt Part 1

If you know me very well at all, you would know that I LOVE antiques. Since moving into our house this past July, I have been thinking of pieces of furniture that would perfectly complete each space. I want our house to have a "collected" feel. Not every piece of furniture has to be an antique but I wanted each piece to speak to me- make sure that I really love it and not just something to fill a hole. I guess it's a good thing that I want a collected feel because it's gonna take us a while to collect all the things we need one by one due to our budget that is :)

I have been on the hunt for a couple of things in particular. A buffet/side table for the front entry hallway and a dining room table. My plan was to keep my eyes on the look out and just buy which ever wonderful piece I found first.

I didn't think finding the buffet would be difficult, but it proved to be as each piece I saw just wasn't quite what I was looking for. I like dark wood or something painted and the ones that had the size and shape I liked would be in a light wood. Or I would find a beautiful walnut or mahogany piece and it would be the wrong size for my hallway.

Our dining room is on the small side and it's actually a perfect square- an odd shape to fit the standard rectangular dining table. So I thought a 60 inch round would work perfectly. Yeah- good luck finding that in an antique store in North AL or TN.

Today mom and I set out to look once again. Whitney and Addison came along for the first part of the day. We found lots of beautiful things as we always do. But about 8 stores into it and I knew today was going to be a bust. That is until the last store...

Pictures of our "find" will come soon. As soon as we make it back to Elgin to pick up our treasures :)

Holiday Decor

I had not posted any "after" pictures of our house since I posted all the "before's". I guess the main reason is that everything is still a work in progress and I feel like every room needs those few extra touches before it is finished. Well anyway, here is a sneak peak with the few pictures I took of everything decorated for Christmas.

I got excited about decorating for Christmas and did it earlier this year than I ever have before. Earlier, like before Thanksgiving....I enjoyed everything being up until it was Jan 5 and all the decorations and garland and lights and bows were still there. Over the weekend we were able to pack everything up. If I was smart I would hit the stores that have their Holiday things on clearance. But where's the fun in shopping for Christmas after it's over? I'll probably just wait until next fall when I get really excited again and then find some new things :)

Christmas 2012

I'm a little late with my Christmas post. This thing would not cooperate with me the other day and I was not able to upload any pictures.

Anyway, we had a wonderful Christmas and were able to spend a lot of time with family. Hubby and I were fortunate to both have a few days off work.

Here are some pictures from the 4 day Christmas...

Whew! That's a lot of Christmas...Hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas as well!
